H. Lawrence is one of the most influential and controversial novelists of the twentieth century. It describes a young man’s distinctive love experience under the influence of his mother. From the psychological point of view, it is known as Oedipus complex. It is a kind of unnatural relationship between mother and son. The thesis aims to provide a picture of how the protagonist Paul struggled for his own identity in the devastated industrialized world. It reveals that the dissimilated family is not the only cause of the Oedipus complex. The ringleader of this kind of abnormal love is the deprivation from human nature in the industrial society and its spiritual control.
